Radda

After breakfast today, we went back to the Chianti district to the town of Radda.  It was probably the smallest village we visited.  A walled, Medieval city, it has been inhabited since the 9th century.  Radda is the seat of the League of Chianti.  It is the only hilltop member of the League.  The 15th century Palazzo del Podesta—the town hall—is covered with the coats of arms of past mayors.  This sits in the main square, the Piazza Ferrucci.

Across from it is the Propositura di San Niccolò.  Here we strolled the winding, cobblestone streets and did some last-minute shopping. We strolled through piazzas and past palazzi.  Then we returned to the Praetorian Palace, which housed Etruscan archaeological relics as well as Etruscan, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian works of art and gems.

Just walking through the streets of this Medieval town was a treat. The well-preserved stone buildings were amazing. Dinner was at Molino il Moro, the old Mill.  It was a fabulous restaurant in an ancient wheat mill with lots of relics.  It was probably the best meal, though we have eaten very well.  We received “diplomas” and had a wonderful time rehashing highlights of the trip.

This time in Tuscany has been fabulous, I would love to spend more time in these old, historic villages. Arrivederci!
